GST Rise… How much will you pay?

There are talks of GST rising to 15% in New Zealand. If this rise does go ahead, how will your accounting software manage? If you are not already on Xero, will you have to pay to upgrade your software? And, how much will this cost? Luckily, for those on Xero… We are already paying for this upgrade in our $49 per month subscription fee. And I am sure it will only take a short while for the team at Xero to upgrade their system from 12.5% to 15%. We wont even have to do anything! No installing new software or upgrades.

Just another reason to switch to Xero…

Can it get any better?

I was sitting in a restuarant today meeting a potential client to talk to him about Xero.

He had his Mac Book with him, hooked up to the wireless internet, which was excellent as I could show him then and there!

After having a wee play on Xero, we started talking about online payroll systems such as Smartpayroll and Flexitime… we then started talking about family & he asked if I had any photos of my 1 1/2 year old son. I said “not with me, but I have lots on Facebook”. So he jumped on Facebook on his macbook and added me as a friend. I received a message on my treo, went on Facebook on my phone as confirmed him as a friend… he THEN got a message on his iphone that our friendship had been confirmed.

Then we joked that we might as well have a conversation via Facebook rather than talking directly to each other!!

Need help on Xero? NO MORE CALLOUT FEES!

Last week I found a great new tool to help my business, and I have used it properly for the first time today. Thanks to Crossloop (www.crossloop.com) I can now have short training sessions without having to leave my office or the client having to leave theirs.

This is excellent if you are stuck on Xero!!

Xero vs MYOB

How does Xero rate to MYOB?

I have just finished updating my books on Xero, it only took me 5 mins!! This used to take me at least TWO HOURS on MYOB and this is how the process went…

On MYOB:

First I would have to enter in all my bills and double check I had entered in all my invoices.
I would then enter any bill payments, invoice payments, spend money transactions and bank transfers from my bank statement.
THEN, I would have to go into the bank reconciliation and reconcile them all…

TALK ABOUT DOUBLE HANDLING!!!

Now that I am on Xero:

All my invoicing is up to date as I invoice as soon as I complete each job via my mobile or macbook
I then enter any bills, if I havent done so already I enter them when I am sitting at the computer paying them
FINALLY, I can walk away!

My bank reconciliation is already complete as I update it every day… With the automated bank feeds, my account transactions are automatically imported into Xero every night, so each morning I go in and check them off. This only takes me about 2 mins – the same amount of time as having a quick browse on Facebook!

So to sum it all up… why be stuck in the dark ages?? Most people who own businesses have better things to spend their time on than at a computer sorting their books out…
